Performance
As a family-oriented Club, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and utilising resources efficiently. In addition, to address the issue of excessive waste in local landfills, a wide range of actions have been taken to minimise single-use items and enhance recycling efforts. Our guiding principle is to reduce, reuse and recycle to ensure a responsible approach to resource management.
Actions
Food & Beverage
- Collaborated with suppliers to eliminate unnecessary packaging, avoiding plastic containers and wraps.
- Introduced colour-coded reusable containers for food deliveries to replace polystyrene and disposable cartons.
- Reduced consumption of alcohol wet wipes by only providing upon request.
- Ended the provision of plastic cutlery with takeaway orders in January 2025.
- Used biodegradable Vegware for take-away containers since 2018.
- Eliminated single-use plastic bottles and plastic straws in 2016.
- Banned the purchase of shark fins in 2018.
- Replaced chicken powder with homemade stock in the Island Room.
- Expanded the number of vegetarian and vegan dishes on Club menus.
- Offered MSC-labelled seafood in the Grill Room.
Members’ Private Events
- Implemented a surcharge for décor/materials left after events.
- Discontinued the use of plastic balloons and party hats due to recyclability concerns.
House Operations
- The Club chiller plants utilises energy only as needed.
- Use low-energy LED and CFL light bulbs.
- Installed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging bays in October 2016.
- Fines imposed for idling vehicles
- Harvest grey water/rainwater for plants and cleaning the Poolside floor/carpark.
- Gardening waste, including Christmas trees and peach blossoms recycled.
Sports & Recreation
- Discontinued the provision of free disposable razors and shower caps.
- Installed water bottle refill stations and removed disposable paper cups.
- Use high quality wooden toys in the Playroom where possible.
Administration
- Introduced paperless committee meetings, through the use of Convene technology in 2015.
- Monthly Club newsletter printed with FSC-certified and Certified Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) paper using soy ink since 2018.
- Made a concerted effort to avoid over-printing.
